Initial Visit (What to expect) At your initial visit a thorough comprehensive exam will be performed. This consists of taking necessary x-rays, checking for cavities, and assessing the integrity of existing dental restorations. We screen for oral cancer and other diseases. The bone and gum tissue are evaluated for recession, bleeding, pocket depths, bone loss, tarter and plaque buildup. We check the TMJ (temporomandibular joint) for any abnormalities and assess the occlusion for specific wear patterns (clenching and bruxing). We also address any aesthetic concerns and discuss all options. For more extensive treatment, we will take photos and diagnostic models of the teeth for further analysis and set up a second appointment to discuss treatment. From the exam we will come up with a treatment plan so you, the patient, can keep your teeth for a lifetime. You have the final say in all treatment and all options will be explored.
