What is dental bonding?
Dr. Bernstein may recommend dental bonding to patients who have imperfections present on the teeth near the front of the smile. Dental bonding is a clay-like material that is tooth-colored. It can be used on teeth, cured using a special light, and filed and polished to look just like tooth enamel. Dental bonding is a material called composite resin that can be used to address:- Tooth decay (cavities)
- Short teeth
- Broken/chipped teeth
- Permanently stained teeth
- Gaps between teeth

What are the benefits of dental bonding?
Not only is dental bonding aesthetic and long-lasting, but it can also be performed in a single appointment. Our professionals can complete the process from start to finish in approximately fifteen minutes or less. This makes it a wonderful way to improve the smile quickly. However, dental bonding is a material susceptible to staining. Patients must pay close attention to foods and beverages they may be consuming that is contributing to staining and reduce or eliminate consumption. Patients should also take great care in cleaning the teeth and gums at home every day with brushing and flossing. This will extend the longevity of dental bonding and reduce the risk of discoloration. Are there any alternatives to dental bonding?
While dental bonding is affordable, fast, and effective at disguising imperfections, some patients may consider other options such as porcelain veneers. Veneers are thin shells of ceramic that are custom-made for a patient. They are bonded onto the front of teeth to change the appearance and cover imperfections. Porcelain veneers will last considerably longer than dental bonding, often ten years or more, and will not stain as easy as composite resin. Porcelain veneers are stronger and best used on the teeth near the front of the smile. They cannot be used to treat cavities but can improve aesthetic concerns.Find out more about dental bonding with Dr. Richard Bernstein If you live in the area of Farmington Hills or Detroit, Michigan, and are curious about using dental bonding to improve your smile, contact our team by calling 248.636.2100 for an appointment.
