Farmington Hills patient asks, "Are porcelain veneers long lasting?

Sometimes, a small makeover, whether it is a new hairstyle or an updated wardrobe, can give a tremendous boost to our confidence and self-image. A smile makeover, likewise, can have a dramatic and appealing impact on a patient's life.

Your smile is a welcoming beacon to those around you. At Richard S. Bernstein, DDS, Dr. Bernstein and our professional dental team believe that you deserve to have the smile of your dreams. Smile makeovers may include one or several cosmetic procedures to enhance the appearance of your teeth, such as full mouth reconstruction, symmetrical smile design, crowns and bridges, Invisalign discreet alignment, dental implants, composite bonding, teeth whitening, and dental veneers.

For patients who may wish to correct a multitude of issues, such as discolored, crooked, chipped, or gapped teeth but who do not want to commit to several procedures, porcelain dental veneers may be the ideal treatment.

After a thorough consultation to determine each patient's unique needs, expectations, and goals, Dr. Bernstein designs a personalized treatment plan. If dental veneers are the best choice, the procedure will be discussed and explained in detail.

With porcelain veneers, a patient can custom-design his or her smile in collaboration with Dr. Bernstein. Using a precise color and shape guide, a model will be created to the exact proportion, color, size, and shape of the teeth that the patient desires. Then wafer-thin layers of porcelain are crafted and bonded to the front of the teeth to change the shape, color, position, length, and smoothness of each tooth.

Preparation for porcelain veneers involves slight tooth reduction so that the layers adhere to the teeth securely. Provisional acrylic veneers will be provided until the permanent veneers are fabricated. After the veneers are sent back to our office, Dr. Bernstein and the patient will approve and test the color, shape, and design before bonding. Afterward, Dr. Bernstein will trim, smooth, and polish the veneers.

Veneers transform the teeth, giving a patient a more youthful appearance and a long-lasting and dazzling smile. With appropriate care and maintenance, veneers can last up to 25 years.
