Walled Lake dentist describes the porcelain veneers procedure from start to finish
By Dr. Richard Bernstein
Patients are first examined to find out if they are suitable candidates for porcelain veneers. Patients are encouraged to have a healthy smile free from cavities and periodontal disease. Patients must also understand the extent of what porcelain veneers can repair and understand their limitations.
Once patients have agreed to the procedure, it begins with the preparation of the natural tooth. The tooth that will be covered by the veneer will undergo the removal of a thin portion of the enamel. This ensures that the veneer fits tightly over the front facing of the tooth and doesn’t add unnecessary bulk once it is placed. After preparation, Dr. Richard S. Bernstein, DDS will take impressions (molds) of the natural tooth. These are used by the ceramist to fabricate the final veneer. Our practice uses a quality laboratory that provides high quality veneers for individuals interested in transforming one or more teeth within their smile.
Patients must wait approximately one to two weeks while the veneers are being fabricated. Once they are mailed back to the dental office, patients will come back to the dentist’s chair for the final placement. Dr. Richard S. Bernstein, DDS bonds the veneers in place and speaks with patients about proper care and maintenance. For individuals who deal with a condition known as bruxism (which results in clenching and grinding of the teeth), they may want to consider using mouth guards at night to protect both their new veneers and their existing smile from unwanted wear and tear.
Patients who maintain their oral health and visit Dr. Richard S. Bernstein, DDS regularly for check-ups and examinations are welcome to come to his practice and ask about restorative solutions such as porcelain veneers.
