Work on teeth whitening with the help of your Michigan dentist
By Dr. Richard Bernstein
There are various teeth whitening treatments used today. Within our Michigan practice, we offer several options to meet the needs of our patients. What many people do, however, is make the assumption that all teeth whitening is equal. This is true only to a very small extent. The basic substance used to lift stains from teeth is hydrogen peroxide. The difference between products or methods comes in when you look at the concentration of whitening agents.
Commercial whitening products, while they may be readily available and may seem to be highly affordable, are those which contain the least amount of whitening agent. These products are limited so that no damage occurs to teeth or gums, although there is still that risk. By limiting the concentration of hydrogen peroxide, manufacturers decrease risk of negative side effects, but also decrease the efficiency of the product itself. These products, while sufficient for lifting surface stains, simply cannot produce the same results as professional whitening, because stains lie beneath the surface enamel.
To gain confidence in your smile that lasts, teeth whitening should be approached from a professional standpoint, with more aggressive products that will reach within teeth to break up and lift intrinsic stains that have been in place for years. Whether you choose to brighten teeth in our office or at home using custom trays and a supply of whitening gel, you will experience a true change in the color of teeth that comes from the inside out.
Feeling good about your smile should be a given. Because our teeth are constantly exposed to substances that cause stains, discoloration may occur and steal our desire to smile freely. To regain confidence through a dazzling smile, contact our office to schedule your whitening treatment.
